FDR's Report Card from Groton School

Franklin Roosevelt was tutored at his home "Springwood" in Hyde Park, NY until he was 14 years old. He then went off to continue his studies at the Groton boarding school in Massachusetts. He enjoyed learning about many subjects, especially history.

His report card is now on display at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park. We have included a copy of it here for your review. As you can see he was not a "straight-A" student, but he did do pretty well in most of his subjects.

Study hard — someday you might become the President of the United States and your report card might end up on public display also.

Here are some questions to consider while reviewing  FDR's report card:

  1. What kinds of subjects did FDR study?
  2. How does FDR's report card compare to yours?
  3. Are good grades all it takes to be a good leader? What other  types of skills do you think are important?
  4. Why not visit some of the other Presidential Library sites to learn how other presidents did in school?
  5. How does your educational experience compare to FDR's?  Would you like to be tutored at home? What do you think it would be like to attend a boarding school?
